Microneedling Anti-Aging & Regenerative Treatment for Your Skin
The skin is the largest organ in your body. It’s what people see first when we walk into a room. We spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars every year trying to keep our skin healthy and youthful-appearing. But there is actually a science behind skincare and it’s important to understand that science so that you can make sure you are doing the right things.
To understand the science and why certain treatments work while others don’t work, you first need to know that your skin consists of three layers: the epidermis (top layer), dermis (middle), and hypodermis (bottom).
You can think of the top layer (epidermis) as a shield that protects you from infection, debris, and environmental toxins. It also has a large number of melanocytes, which are specialized cells that give our skin its color. It is also largely responsible for the skin’s ability to hold water.
The middle layer (dermis) layer is the powerhouse of the skin. It contains collagen and elastin which are important in skin integrity, which helps to prevent sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles. It also contains oil follicles, sweat glands, and oil. This layer is also full of blood vessels that nourish the epidermis.
The bottom layer (hypodermis) mostly consists of macrophages and adipose tissue. It also contains large blood vessels and nerves.
So what does this have to do with your skincare regimen?
As we age our skin becomes more dehydrated and we start to lose some of those vital collagen and elastin proteins. We start to see fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration and longer healing times. So naturally, we use moisturizers, lotions, creams, balms and sprays to rehydrate and revitalize our skin.
The problem is that these topical products do not get deep enough into that powerhouse (dermis) layer. So essentially the topical products that we use just stay on the top layers and do not properly nourish and hydrate the skin. No matter how expensive or how fancy the topical product is, you will not receive the full benefit unless you get into the powerhouse layer.
Allow me to introduce one of my favorite anti-aging treatments: microneedling treatment.
At Full Potential HRT clinic, our experienced physicians use advanced micro-needling technology to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin and reduce the skin’s aging. Especially when you add platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to your microneedling treatment. I explain further below what PRP is.
Over a course of 4 – 8 treatments (determined by your doctor), you will begin to see benefits from your skincare regimen.
One patient of mine was beginning to show some signs of aging. She was a working mom in her mid 40’s. She presented with wrinkles along the lateral aspect of the eyes (crow’s feet), forehead wrinkles and deepening on the nasolabial folds (smile lines). For her part, she was doing the right things. She was drinking 100 ounces of water per day, exercising four times per week, she wasn’t smoking, and she ate very limited amounts of processed foods. She washed her face with an all natural cleanser twice per day once in the morning and once in the evening. She applied an all natural collagen moisturizer and used SPF sunscreen when warranted. Admittedly her skin wasn’t “bad” but she was conscious that she was starting to age and wanted to see if she could slow the process.
After her initial consultation we developed a treatment plan that consisted of six microneedling treatments spaced one month apart. After each microneedling treatment she was prescribed a specific at home skin care regimen to help facilitate her anti-aging process. A couple of weeks after her final treatment she reported back that she was receiving compliments on the appearance of her skin and said she was beaming with confidence. She now returns to the clinic once every six months for a maintenance microneedling treatment, and she even paid for her husband to get the same microneedling treatment series.
What about men? Do men get anti-aging microneedling treatments for aging skin?
Speaking of men, we have certainly moved past the notion that only women care about their appearance. We’ve had a lot of success with this treatment for men as well. Even guys who have been struggling with acne for years have seen great improvement with our microneedling treatments. We recently treated a 33 year old male patient who had severe cystic acne since he was a teen. He tried creams, lotions, prescription antibiotics and nothing really worked. He came to us wanting to improve the appearance of his acne scars. After eight treatments spaced one month apart, his acne scars were virtually non-existent. In our post treatment consultation he admitted that although his regimen was strict he was able to stay disciplined with his treatment plan and his life has completely changed for the better.
Microneedling treatment can also be done to prevent rather than anti-age skin.
In addition to using microneedling as a treatment, it can be used to prevent skin conditions as well. Think of it as a “super facial.” Even young patients who don’t show obvious signs of aging use this treatment.
You do not have to fall victim to the excuse of “I’m just getting old”. There is a way to enhance your appearance and slow the aging process. Hydrated, full, smooth, youthful-appearing skin is PRICELESS. Patients have reported that after these treatments, they not only have improved self-confidence, but they wind up saving money on expensive treatments that don’t give them results.
Common conditions treated with microneedling:
- Fine lines and wrinkles.
- Stretch marks
- Acne scars
- Poor skin hy
- Dark spot or uneven skin tone.
What else can I do for my aging skin besides microneedling treatment?
Microneedling coupled with the proper skin care regimen and lifestyle modifications can work wonders for your skin, in terms of preventing aging or anti-aging your skin.
What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?
PRP is an all-natural, extremely safe healing solution that is derived from your own blood that can be placed on your skin that takes the healing and regeneration process to the next level when it comes to microneedling treatment. You may have heard of famous actors and actresses getting the trademarked “vampire facial®”. PRP is used in that procedure! Research has shown that using PRP has a significant healing effect on the skin, which also makes it a great treatment for acne scars and stretch marks. We have even had great success using PRP for hair restoration for men and women suffering from hair loss and hair thinning.
