What is POTENTwave™?
The procedure is quick and simple. While low-intensity extracorporeal shockwaves are not painful, they feel very strange, so numbing cream does have to be applied about 20 minutes prior to the procedure. For your first appointment, we’ll ask you to apply this once you arrive for your appointment. While the numbing cream takes effect your doctor will sit and speak with you face to face about your concerns and goals from the procedure. For future appointments, we’ll ask that you apply the numbing cream on your own before you arrive to the office. Once the numbing cream takes effect, it usually takes about 25 – 30 minutes for the doctor to apply all of the shockwave pulses. The first appointment takes less than an hour and follow-up appointments take about half an hour. We recommend that patients schedule POTENTwave™ as a series of two treatments per week for either three or four consecutive weeks in order to maximize the benefits of the treatment. If twice weekly visits are not possible, then once weekly visits also work very well for either six or eight consecutive weeks.
You will be able to drive yourself home following the procedure without any difficulty. Men don’t have to wait at all before engaging in sexual activity. There’s no downtime at all.

How does POTENTwave™ work as a GAINSWave® alternative?
POTENTwave™ shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction works to improve erectile dysfunction by regenerating and repairing old and damaged blood vessels, including those of the corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum. This means improved blood flow to the penis, improved capacity of the penis to fill with blood, and an improved ability of the penis to trap blood once it’s there. These are the three keys to improved erectile function.
These pictures show that the penis is a specialized chamber of blood vessels, and its function depends on how well these specialized blood vessels are able to expand and fill with blood. To become truly hard and erect, these specialized blood vessels must completely fill so that they compress the veins just beneath the surface, so that blood cannot flow away from the penis.
Does POTENTwave™ shockwave therapy really help men with erectile dysfunction?
Yes – in most cases it helps a lot.

How quickly does POTENTwave™ improve erectile function? How long does this improvement last?
Although many men will experience some obvious improvement after just their first POTENTwave™ treatment, the benefits are usually progressive and cumulative rather than immediate. Most men will continue to experience progressive and cumulative improvement of erectile dysfunction week after week after week during the several months following their series of treatments. This is because it’s stimulating the regeneration and repair of the tissues of the penis. This takes time.
For the same reason that the benefits are gradually acquired the benefits are very long-lasting. Studies have so far demonstrated that the improvement acquired from the erectuke dysfunction treatment is maintained for at least two to three years following the treatment, even without further treatment for erectile dysfunction. Although this is the case, it does make sense to receive follow up treatments periodically to better maintain acquired improvements of erectile function.
Who is a good candidate for POTENTwave™ shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction – our GAINSWave® alternative?
We reviewed all of the studies, and then administered to our own patients the different combinations demonstrated in the studies to work well. After several years of experience helping many of our patients administering these different combinations, we’ve determined for ourselves the certain combinations of frequency and wavelength and the certain methods of administration that work the best for our patients.
Our high-frequency low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy treatment works very well for men under 40 years old. It still works for men over 40 years old as long as they’re on properly prescribed testosterone replacement therapy. It still works for men over 50 years old – but not as well and more treatments are required – as long as they’re on properly prescribed testosterone replacement therapy.
Who is not a good candidate for POTENTwave™ shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction – our GAINSWave® alternative?
Our high-frequency low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy treatment doesn’t work nearly as well for men over 40 years old who suffer from low testosterone and forego properly prescribed testosterone replacement therapy. Our clinic does not usually recommend this treatment for men over 50 years old who are not on properly prescribed testosterone replacement therapy and properly prescribed growth hormone replacement therapy. Our clinic does not recommend this treatment for men over 60 years old who are not on properly prescribed testosterone replacement therapy and properly prescribed growth hormone replacement therapy.
This treatment is not effective for everyone. There’s no such thing as a cure-all erectile dysfunction treatment for everyone who suffers from erectile dysfunction for every cause of erectile dysfunction.
In our experience this treatment is not effective for erectile dysfunction caused by low testosterone or low growth hormone, psychologic causes, spinal cord injuries, or for men who’ve suffered from erectile dysfunction due to local nerve damage following prostate surgery to treat prostate cancer, and who’ve waited more than 6 months to seek treatment. This treatment is not safe or recommended for men who have penile implants or who are on anticoagulants.

Severe Testosterone Deficiency is the Most Common Cause of Erectile Dysfunction
Properly prescribed testosterone replacement therapy is the single most effective treatment for erectile dysfunction caused by severe testosterone deficiency due to aging (also known as andropause), which is the most common primary cause of erectile dysfunction.
To test this fact again, we recently ran the numbers again for men who are concierge patients enrolled in our Gold Standard Concierge TRT Program,

Can the POTENTwave™ erectile dysfunction treatment be used to prevent erectile dysfunction?
Yes, absolutely. In addition to preventing erectile dysfunction, it can be used to further enhance erectile function. It can increase firmness and ability to maintain an erection even if one doesn’t experience anything that one would call actual erectile dysfunction. It can improve sensitivity of the penis, by recruiting stem cells that grow nerve tissue. My only precaution is to be careful not to use it too much so that one doesn’t make their penis too sensitive. I use POTENTwave™ personally in order to not only maintain excellent erectile function but to OPTIMIZE it. I want to have my erections be at their full potential too as I gracefully age.
Can POTENTwave™ be used in addition to other erectile dysfunction treatments?
Yes, absolutely. How is POTENTwave™ Performed?
After getting you comfortable in our exam chair, we apply a numbing cream and then give it several minutes to work, and then we apply ultrasound gel to the skin of the shaft of your penis, as well as to the erectile and muscular tissue in the area between your penis and anus, and then we apply the LI-ESWT device to send soundwaves into these areas in a specified regimen for 30 minutes.
What is erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is defined in many different ways. Based on our experience with thousands of men, our physicians choose to define erectile dysfunction as the inability of a man to achieve and / or maintain a full and potent erection while engaged in sexual activity.
How common is erectile dysfunction?
Very common, but its prevalence is under-estimated, because men don’t go to the doctor, and when they do, they don’t report it. As it is, it’s estimated that more than 50% of men over 40 years old, and more than 70% of men over 65 years old suffering from at least some significant degree of erectile dysfunction.
What causes erectile dysfunction?
The most common cause is atrophy (shrinking and weakening) of the penis along with its blood vessels, nerves, and structural components due to aging. A large part of aging’s contribution to erectile dysfunction is that it leads naturally to severe testosterone deficiency either before or at andropause, along with other hormone deficiencies. The next most common cause by far is decreased blood flow to the penis due to cardiovascular disease. The next most common cause by far is decreased blood flow to the penis and nerve damage to the penis due to diabetes. A less common, but still overall common cause of erectile dysfunction is that it is a side-effect of a medication. For example, antihypertensive, anti-anxiety, and anti-depressant medications are notorious for causing erectile dysfunction, as are many other medications.
